New season, new skin-care regimen! And since spring skin is probably on your mind, there’s no better time than the present to start prepping your complexion for the impending (and highly welcomed) rising temperatures and sunny days that lie ahead. Here are the five top tips, to transition your skin from winter drab to spring fab!
Cold, wind and rain can cause season-long buildup on the skin—of dead skin cells, leftover product, and environmental toxins— which is why we recommend exfoliating in the new season. Light micro-dermabrasion, followed by a moisturising mask, will help get rid of that old dead, winter skin. To keep skin smooth and hydrated, through spring use a mask up to three times a week. A few of our favourites? Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Hydrating Modeling Mask and Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask both of which offer loads of extra extra hydration while giving skin a fresh, dewy glow.
As for a great at home micro-dermabrasion we love Exuviance Triple Microdermabrasion Face Polish, exfoliates, refines and promotes cell renewal for your face. It is formulated with professional grade crystals, Glycolic Acid and Papaya Enzyme to smooth skin, dissolve impurities and loosen dead skin cells and to polish skin for silky soft results. Helps to reduce the appearance of pores and dark spots. A triple action skin care treatment that provides results without compromising efficacy. Regular use helps increase the performance of your other cosmetic treatment products.
Lighten Your Load
Gone are the days of the “puffy” jacket and loading up your visage with thick creams and serums to help fight off the wicked winter wind. Come spring, it’s time to swap out your heavy formulas for lighter formulations, as certain products can weigh you down especially in warmer weather. Which is why we recommend an oil-free moisturiser, like Clinique Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator, which goes on light and smooth, but is rich enough to quench skin without kickstarting excessive oil production.
Apply (and re-apply) Sunscreen
After months spent bundled up in beanies, slathering on sun protection is a must once temperatures start to rise (although as Australians, you should have been rocking daily SPF May through August, too.) Springtime is actually a high risk time for sunburns and sun damage, although the weather is warmer, it’s still so mild you might not feel how strong the sun is. Apply sunscreen every morning and reapply it again before any outdoor activity during the day.
Our SPF recommendation? EltaMD UV Clear Facial Sunscreen SPF 46, it’s clear zinc oxide sunscreen that also contains niacinamide to help give the skin a glow. (As a reminder, niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 that strengthens the skin’s outer layers, improves elasticity, and curbs redness and irritation.)
Add an Eye Cream
Because the sun’s more prominent in the spring and a lot brighter, thankfully), we are more prone to squinting. To combat the fine lines and wrinkles that can form around the eyes, find an eye cream with a high concentration of antioxidants and peptides. This duo work to both ward-off the collagen-destroying effects of UVA rays, and plump up the fine lines and wrinkles that have already formed.
Our pick? Perricone MD Cold Plasma Plus+ Eye Advanced Eye Cream, which also contains brightening vitamin C. Of course, a pair of big sunglasses is never a bad idea, either.
Go Light on Foundation
Since you’ll be spending more time in the sun, look for makeup that offers even coverage and protection. We love a light foundation, tinted moisturiser or BB cream with tint, SPF, and antioxidants this time of the year.
Our favourites? BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream SPF30 and Lancome Skin Feels Good Hydrating Skin Tint Healthy Glow SPF 23, you will find yourself reaching for them day after day and your skin will thank you for it!
