One of the most exciting lip trends, since red lipstick, for Spring/Autumn 2012 is the colour tangerine. Yes that’s right, tangerine is orange! Tangerine lips are taking the beauty world (and the runways!) by storm, serving as an unexpected pop of color that instantly warms the features, as long as you’re not afraid to go bold!
After finally figuring out the “classic red” and how to pull that off, you might be left wondering how on earth you can pull off orange! Don’t worry, this sun-kissed trend is easy and fun to do, and the best news is that orange flatters almost any skin tone. The general rule of thumb is the lighter your skin tone, the darker the shade! But of course, rules are meant to be broken, so if a particular shade doesn’t suit you, try another!
To jump on the trend without too much color commitment, take baby steps with an orange-y coral shade that’s not quite so harsh against soft skin tones. Try Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Perle Lipstick – #102 Coral Sun or Christian Dior Serum De Rouge – No. 345 Coral Crystal. However, if you’re ready for the real deal, test out high-impact runway colors like Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Rouge Volupte (Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick SPF 15) – No. 14 Orange Shiver, Clinique High Impact Lip Colour SPF 15 – # 10 Coral Crush, or Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine – # 44 Sari D’Eau.
Once you find a shade that suits you the rest of your makeup should be kept simple. Use a dewy foundation, or tinted moisturiser. A light matte bronzer will work best on your cheeks. Keep the eyes simple by lining the top lash line with a gel or liquid eyeliner. The eyeshadow should also be kept very simple, nothing more than a bit of light brown eyeshadow on your lids. We want to keep the rest of the face simple in order to avoid looking tacky. Orange is a risqué color, and we don’t want to overdo it.
